Back in 2020, Nur Sajat sparked major controversy for dressing like a woman while performing umrah in Mecca. After receiving tons of backlash from the public, the trans-figure later (tearfully) apologised for causing the drama.

During a live broadcast on her TikTok, Sajat was asked to shed some light on the issue surrounding her umrah trip. According to her, she was forced to do so (wearing female clothing) on the orders of the country’s immigration management.

“I swear to God if I’m lying, my parents, will die,” Sajat emphasised. She then explained, “I was forced to wear (female clothing) when I was in Mecca. I’m telling the truth. For the sake of God, I swear. When I arrived at the immigration, they told me to put on the hijab. They also told me to wear the ‘telekung’ (women’s prayer garment) while performing the prayers.”

The comments section was flooded with netizens sharing their take on the matter. After hearing her explanation, many of them thought that it made sense for Sajat to wear female clothing during her umrah trip, particularly due to her feminine physical appearance. “It’s logical for Sajat to wear the ‘tudung’ and cover her ‘aurat’. If she was placed together with the male pilgrims, they won’t be able to concentrate on their prayers,” one netizen pointed out.
