Anita Sarawak has been out of the public eye for more than a decade now. The legendary pop diva from Singapore reportedly moved to Las Vegas from Kuala Lumpur in 2011, along with her British husband, Mohamad Mahathir Abdullah. Since then, many have been curious about her whereabouts.
Recently, Anita’s half-sister, Noorkumalasari, delighted fans with another update on her whereabouts. Speaking in an interview with Berita Harian, the actress-singer revealed that she finally had the chance to chat with her elder sibling on the first day of Hari Raya. She spent half an hour on the phone catching up with Anita at their elder sister Noraini Mohamad Taib’s home on 22nd April.
“This is the best Hari Raya I’ve ever had. I’ve finally got to speak with Kak Nita after 10 years. We grew up together and were very close since our childhood days, so the family bond remained intact although our parents have passed away. I miss Kak Nita very much,” Noor told the local press.
Noor and her siblings have always gathered at Noraini’s house on the first day of Hari Raya to await a phone call from the “Akhirnya Kini Pasti” songstress. “I arrived a bit late because I visited my brother-in-law’s house. After I arrived at Noraini’s house, I performed the Asar prayer first. That’s when Noraini received a call from Kak Nita in Las Vegas,” the “Mira Edora” actress shared.
She added, “Noraini told Kak Nita that I was at her house, but I was praying at that time. I didn’t expect Kak Nita to wait for me to complete my prayers to talk to me. I was stunned when I heard her voice on the phone. Kak Nita’s voice sounds a little different, but still, it’s the voice that I miss the most.”
“My sister and I love to joke around. Our main topic of conversation was why she didn’t reach out to us since she went back to the US. She explained that she had sent me a birthday greeting, but I didn’t respond. Apparently our texts failed to reach each other. That’s the only thing we talked about for a few minutes,” Noor further revealed in the chat.
Noor also said that both Anita and her husband are happy living as “ordinary people” in Las Vegas. She added, “Kak Nita shared with me that she hasn’t worn the hijab and is still sporting the same image, though she gained some weight. At the age of 71, Kak Nita said that she feels calmer and relaxed, without being bound by work demands.”
We’re certainly glad to hear that both Anita and her husband are doing well. May the lovely couple continue to live their peaceful life without any disturbance.
