If it’s one thing Malaysia can take pride in is that our shopping malls have earned a lot of praise from foreigners. Content creators from the United States have repeatedly complimented our shopping centres when they came to visit saying that ours are better, bigger and prettier than the ones in their country.
While foreigners have been amazed by the malls here, our people, on the other hand, feel like there are just too many. Many were definitely not happy after hearing that Elmina, Shah Alam will be opening a mall sometime this year. Here’s what they had to say:

Yesterday (Thursday, 18th January), a photo of, what appears to be, a press conference of the upcoming Elmina Lakeside Mall was posted on Twitter. The photo showed all the shops that will be included in the mall that is set to open sometime in July this year. Faiz Fayeshz, who posted the tweet, also mentioned a rumour that there’d be another mall in Puncak Alam.
The tweet quickly attracted the attention of netizens with most of them expressing their frustration of another mall being developed. While some were happy about the Elimna Lakeside Mall as it’ll be the nearest shopping centre to them, many commented that opening another mall is just a waste of space and resources.
Some believed that the new mall would cause more traffic while others suggested that there should be public transportation to ease the journey or recreational areas for families to enjoy. As for the rumoured mall that Faiz Fayeshz was referring to, we currently don’t have any information on what mall it could be or the date of completion.

Do you think we have too many malls in Malaysia?
