#TIDALForAll: The Reason Why Twitter/FB Display Pictures Are Turning Blue

“The first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial.”

If you didn’t hear or read about it, you would’ve at least seen your favourite artistes rallying support for TIDAL. But wait, what’s TIDAL?

TIDAL

TIDAL is a new high-fidelity streaming music service which was acquired by Jay Z last month as part of a USD56 million dollar deal with the Scandinavian platform Aspiro. Jay Z officially announced the service with the backing of a host or artistes including Taylor Swift, Jack White, country star Jason Aldean, Madonna, and Daft Punk, just to name a few. He has also cut deals with a host of artistes — including those in the Roc Nation stable, such as Rihanna and Kanye West — to stream all of their content on the service.

In fact, Jay Z is even throwing a splashy New York launch event at 5pm on Monday, 30th March (Tuesday, 31st March in Malaysia) at NYC’s James A. Farley Post Office building!

TIDAL uses a high-fidelity streaming protocol that boasts better sound quality. And while artistes, particularly Taylor Swift, have complained that rival service Spotify doesn’t fairly compensate artistes, insiders say TIDAL is “going to be Robin Hood, the first minority-owned, artist-friendly streaming service”.

A music industry executive told Page Six, “TIDAL isn’t just about streaming music. Users will be able will be access audio, video, social media , B-roll, merchandise, ticketing. Users will be able to have a special connection to the artistes.”

As such, such a mind-blowingly awesome service is already seeing massive support from some of the world’s top artistes. Some have already thrown their support behind TIDAL, changing their Twitter as well as Facebook page display pictues to light blue and tweeting the hashtag #TIDALForAll, starting with Mr. Carter himself.

Yes, we guess you could say that it doesn’t get any more legit than having a throng of artistes support your soon-to-be-launched music service before anyone can even have a “taste” of it.

For now, what we know according to TIDAL’s website is that there are 2 paid subscription options:

  1. USD19.99 a month for high-fidelity audio
  2. USD9.99 for standard quality audio.

We also hear that TIDAL can be streamed on the web, and downloaded for iOS and Android devices. Full details of the service will be announced during a press conference on Monday, 30th March (Tuesday, 31st March in Malaysia).
