Amid the investigation into the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh (谢侑芯), Malaysian singer Namewee (黄明志) faced two charges of drug use and drug possession. However, the controversial figure has now been acquitted of one of the charges.
Earlier today (Monday, 22nd December 2025), Namewee appeared at the Magistrates’ Court for the hearing of his drug-related charges. The 42-year-old faced two separate charges from 24th October 2025 for possession of drugs and self-administering a cocktail of drugs, including amphetamine, methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol and ketamine.

During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa informed the court that Namewee’s urine test results came out negative, submitting a copy of the chemist’s report to the court. Namewee’s lawyer, Joshua Tay, argued that there was no prospect of prosecuting his client since his pathology report was negative, urging an order of acquittal.
Magistrate S. Arunjothy granted Namewee’s acquittal and the return of the RM2,000 bail after the prosecution withdrew their charges. With his acquittal, the singer no longer faces imprisonment for a term not less than two years but not exceeding five years, and whipping not less than three strokes but not more than nine strokes.

Despite being cleared of the drug use charge, the social media personality still faces a separate charge for drug possession at another Magistrates’ Court. For this charge, Namewee faces a possible fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years. The case is set for mention on 19th January 2026 (Monday).
Meanwhile, the investigations into Iris Hsieh’s murder continue as the police await the toxicology and autopsy results. The authorities also extended Namewee’s bail for a third time, until 11th January 2026 (Sunday).
