2018 is indeed the year of politics in Malaysia as the top 4 most searched individuals on Google are all from the political scene.
It is undoubtedly that 2018 is the year of change in Malaysia thanks to the historical general election on 9th May. Because of that, Google’s annual Year In Search report has shown that 7 prominent names listed in the top 10 are all Malaysian politicians.
Topping the list is none other than our former prime minister Najib Razak, followed by our current prime minister Mahathir Mohamad.
Taking 3rd place is Malaysia’s dashing and youngest minister Syed Saddiq while Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor takes the 4th spot.
Other politicians listed include Anwar Ibrahim, Mat Sabu, and Nurul Izzah, while the rest on the list are Ducchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle at 5th place and actor Farid Kamil at 8th place and Chilean professional footballer Alexis Sanchez at 9th place.

No politicians were listed in Google Malaysia’s 2016 and 2017 Year In Search.
Meanwhile, the top 3 searches in 2018 are World Cup, SPR (Malaysian Election Commission), and Astro Awani. Mahathir and Najib also appeared on this list.
Of course, the top trending news and events is the 14th General Election, followed by the creepy Momo Challenge. Surprisingly, ICERD takes 3rd place on the trending news and events, considering that it only peaked around October.
