Yesterday (Thursday, 15th July), myBurgerLab announced in a Facebook post that they will close all stores temporarily for five days from 26th July to 30th July to raise a Mental Health Awareness Red Flag. The decision was made to give their workers their much deserved break after battling with challenges faced during this pandemic.

Renyi Chin, the local burger joint’s co-founder, said that since the start of the first Movement Control Order (MCO), the team had worked hard to come up with strategies to keep the business alive and survive throughout 2020. He remarked that thanks to everyone’s hard work, they managed to scrape by and pull through 2020.

As they enter 2021, Renyi stated that his team is vigorously persevering through the pandemic until the first and second quarters of the year. “We then entered 2021 full of hope and renewed vigor. The team was ready to conquer the new post-Covid world. Or so we thought,” he wrote, adding that they continued to come up with more plans in hope for better days.

“We had meetings, we had plans, we had hopes. However, here we are today, staring at 11k cases, with the National Recovery Plan dictating that no Dine-in will happen until phase 3 and God knows how far away that is,” Renyi pens. He continued by stating that his team is mentally defeated. During the 483 days of operation, all of the myBurgerLab staff from the human resources, finance team, marketing team, and the kitchen divisions have not stopped working during this pandemic.

In the announcement post, Renyi detailed how each of the myBurgerLab team battled their own challenges, for 483 days. The challenges range from changing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to managing expectations of thousands of impatient riders and customers, all while evading Covid-19 cases.

Following the temporary closure of myBurgerLab, Renyi hopes that their team can take better care of their mental health and return with renewed spirit for the company.
