Movie News: “The Night Agent” Renewed For 3rd Season; Ewan McGregor Hints At “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2

In this day and age, creating a brand new IP (intellectual property) is oftentimes a serious risk. When it flops, oftentimes, there’s no recovering from it. However, when it succeeds, we hold out hope for a sequel or a second season to happen.

Well, today is your day, “The Night Agent” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” fans, as follow-ups to your favourite series are (or may likely be) just around the corner. Check out the tea we’ve got for you:

The Night Agent Seasons 2 & 3 – What We Know

The beloved action thriller is back for round 2. For those who do not know, “The Night Agent” tells the tale of FBI Agent Peter Sutherland, who becomes entangled in a massive conspiracy involving a mole at the highest echelons of the US government. He embarks on a desperate search for the traitor in order to save the country, all the while shielding Rose Larkin, a former CEO of a tech company, from those responsible for the murders of her aunt and uncle.

Since its release on Netflix back in March of last year, the series has received glowing reviews from both critics and audiences, receiving a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 out of 10 score on IMDb.

In a teaser, Netflix revealed that following the events of the first season, Peter is promoted to become a full-blown night agent, but not all is sunshine and rainbows, as he is at risk now more than ever. And though the first season saw our protagonist flying off to a mysterious location alone, the images released in the teaser reveal he finds his way back to his paramour.

Gabriel Basso previously told Entertainment Weekly that season 2 will find Peter with “a lot more inner turmoil” —  especially when it comes to his relationship with Rose. “Out of a desire to protect Rose, would he involve her in this life that might put her at risk? Selfishly, I’m sure he’d want her around, but it would be dangerous. A lot of thought has to be put into what it means to have that job and be that person that’s able to drop everything and go. You can’t really have things, like family, that most people would want to have.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Amanda Warren, known for her role as Deputy Inspector on the CBS series East New York, will be joining the cast as Catherine, a veteran night agent who leads the new recruit programme that will more than likely butt heads with Peter.

And though season 2 is not out just yet, the series has already received a season 3 renewal, so don’t worry if you feel like you need more “Night Agent” in your life, we’ve got you covered. The release date for season 2 has yet to be announced, but it’s expected to drop in the last quarter of 2025.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” Season 2 On The Table

L.A. Comic Con was a massive success, as usual. During said event, we were gifted all sorts of juicy news from our favourite franchises, one of them being Disney/Lucasfilm. During the special panel, the civilised Jedi master himself, Ewan McGregor, was on hand to answer the hottest Star Wars-related questions.

“Countdown” Review: A Thrilling, High-Stakes Crime Drama With Massive Highs... & Lows

When discussing plans on the Disney+ standalone series he stars in, “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” McGregor revealed that he, Lucasfilm, and Disney are currently “exploring” more ideas for a potential second season.

“Obviously, between the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and when Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s got to be another few stories in there,” McGregor explained at the event. “We’re definitely hoping, or, well, exploring that, I think would be the word to say.”

This is not the first time that the star has mentioned the first Kenobi from the original trilogy, played by Alec Guinness. In fact, McGregor has been meaning to tell a story that will finally bridge the gap between the original and the prequel trilogy. He wants to illustrate a character who “has lost his faith” but overcomes his struggles and becomes the “Zen master” that we see Guinness portray back in 1977.

The fact that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is set nine years before the events of “A New Hope” means that there is almost a decade worth of stories to tell, something McGregor and company want to see play out in multiple seasons. However, he has expressed interest in doing a Clone Wars-era prequel, where he would unite with Hayden Christensen to take the fight to the Separatist Alliance, teasing that he’d “like to wear that armour.”

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has gone on record saying that season 2 is still on the table. “It’s certainly something we talk about,” she said, “mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly, from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end.”

Kennedy continued, “But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?”
