“Hong Kong Pavilion” Debuts At BookFest @ Malaysia This March

Recreating Hong Kong's Neon Streets, Curating a "Golden Legacy" Immersive Reading Experience

by Melissa
March 5, 2026

The “Soaring Creativity – O2O Hong Kong Pavilion” will make its first appearance at the 20th BookFest @ Malaysia, happening from 18th to 26th March at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (Hall 1).

Co-organised by the Hong Kong Publishing Federation and the The Hong Kong Printers Association, and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, the pavilion brings an immersive Hong Kong cultural experience to Malaysia’s largest Chinese book fair.

Bringing “Central” and “Kowloon” to Kuala Lumpur

The pavilion is themed “Golden Legacy, Timeless Ink: A Tribute to Hong Kong Culture”. Visitors can stroll through recreated “Central” and “Kowloon” streets, complete with neon signs, a nostalgic bookstore, pawnshop setting and a vintage bing sutt (traditional Hong Kong café) booth. It’s designed as a vibrant, Instagram-worthy space that captures the charm of Hong Kong’s iconic streets.

A special “Creative Corner” exhibition, “From Page to Screen: Scripting the Hong Kong Legend”, explores how works by renowned authors like Jin Yong, Ni Kuang, Eileen Chang and Lilian Lee were adapted into classic films.

It also spotlights the hit IP “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”, tracing its journey from novel and comic to the big screen. Neon installations featuring famous movie quotes add to the nostalgic atmosphere.

Nearly 650 Works on Display

The pavilion will showcase close to 650 outstanding Hong Kong publishing and printing works, including award-winning titles. A dedicated sales area will feature up to 800 types of Hong Kong books — from popular fiction and children’s picture books to culture, history and lifestyle titles — all available at special prices.

Master Talks x Panda Ornament Workshop

Visitors can also join free on-site activities, including:

  • Master’s Anecdotes: Mr. Yeung Ngo will share his perspective on Mr. Chua Lam and chat about interesting stories in the literary circles.
  • Film & TV Memories: Mr. Chak Ho Yin and Dr. Serina Ha revisit Hong Kong pop culture through their books.
  • Picture Books & Comics Sharing: Featuring Ms. Lam Sim Sim, Mr. So Chung Man and Mr. Keung Chi Kit.
  • Panda Ornament Workshop: A fun printed craft activity for adults and children.

Receive a Limited-Edition Souvenir Upon Entry

Visitors who complete an online questionnaire and like/follow the pavilion’s official social media pages will receive a limited-edition neon-style “Hong Kong Pavilion” paper clip (while stocks last).

See you from 18th to 26th March at the “Hong Kong Pavilion”, Hall 1, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre!
