When choosing a perfume, you would pick a scent you enjoy or one that fits the occasion. There are thousands of perfumes in the market – but would you consider using a perfume that smells like french fries?

McDonald’s Japan recently teased the potential release of a french fries-scented perfume, sending the internet into a frenzy. The fast food chain shared about the perfume via an image on their Twitter account, with the captions, “We made a perfume that smells like french fries?”.

The photo shows a model getting a spritz of perfume from a bottle that resembles the iconic McDonald’s french fries container. According to the photo, McDonald’s will release three versions of the perfume: regular salted fries, plum nori seaweed salted fries and garlic black pepper mayonnaise seasoned fries.

Online media outlet Siliconera reported that the scents and the perfume packaging replicate the design of the fast food chain’s Shaka Shaka Potatoes. Unfortunately, McDonald’s Japan has yet to announce a release date, so netizens aren’t sure whether it’s real or just a joke. However, some noted that it’s still too early for April’s Fool so the perfume could be legitimate. Nevertheless, netizens are looking forward to smelling the perfume – but they said it might make them crave a burger.

However, the McDonald’s perfume isn’t the only one that went viral recently because local netizens went abuzz about an RM550 perfume with a “disgusting” scent. Perfume reviewer Aimanzsham recently uploaded a video on his TikTok, reviewing the Etat Libre d’Orange Secretions Magnifiques perfume that contained notes of “sweat, spit, bleach and breast milk”. Upon smelling the perfume, the TikTok user started retching.

Aimanzsham explained that the perfume smelled like “a shirt marinated for weeks in sweat”. His review video quickly went viral, gaining over 700,000 views within a day. However, most of the comments were netizens wondering why he would spend RM550 on the perfume. Many also questioned why he didn’t use a tester before buying it. In his captions, the user explained that he wanted to explore a rare scent and added that the store had no tester available at the store.

What do you think about these two unconventional perfumes? Are you intrigued by their scents?

@aimanzsham
