Malaysian Lady Annoyed That Her Maybank Account Went Up To Over RM404 Million Before Getting Blocked

Co-founder of the Malaysian HR Forum Hafidzah Abdullah recently received enough money to bring her personal Maybank account up to roughly RM404 million. However, while most would have taken this as a ‘blessing’, it turned out to be a pretty annoying ‘curse’ instead.

Many will claim that they would be cheering if an insane amount of cash suddenly appeared in their bank accounts. But, it’s cost Hafidzah more trouble than it’s worth, especially since the added amount only got her account frozen. Thankfully, she’s since managed to get it resolved.

“Dear Maybank,” she started blithely in her post, uploaded on 29th November. “I appreciate your making my banking experience memorable, but I think this glitch took it a little too far.” According to Hafidzah, she’d opened the app to see her personal account deposit had increased to a total of RM404, 040,404.04. “You’d think I won the lottery, right?” she stated. “Well, not really – It is glitches!!!”

To make matters worse, the glitches had also blocked her account without warning. “To unblock it, I had to visit the nearest Maybank branch & the officer had to call customer service to unblock it—  which took forever & this is not my mistake!” Hafidzah also added that her company’s account at the time was unusable. “Visiting Maybank has become my new daily exercise routine,” she drily said.

Thankfully, Hafidzah soon reported that she got her account back after Maybank’s executive vice president stepped in to help her resolve the issue.  Maybank themselves later clarified that the glitch had been because of a system error, claiming that the money in the account had not actually been changed.

Well, on the bright side, all is well that ends well we suppose. Sure, Hafidzah isn’t ‘rich’ anymore, but thankfully, she has her bank account back. Some commentators quipped they too are hoping for a glitch in their accounts, but we still think it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

Unfortunately, this seemingly only adds to concerns about Maybank’s security, as brought up by netizens in this Twitter thread. Hopefully, the bank will be able to do something to fix it soon.
