In a world of uncertainty, there’s one thing that is certain – Marvel Studios is forever looking for the best director who can helm their movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

According to The Wrap, Ava DuVernay is currently being eyed by Marvel to direct one of the studio’s upcoming superhero movies – either “Captain Marvel” or “Black Panther“. Sources have also suggested that she will most likely direct the latter, as it will be released first.

There are other directors who were being shortlisted to helm the movie too, but DuVernay emerged as the top choice. Discussions have been held, with DuVernay having a mutual interest with Marvel to join the cinematic universe.

The Wrap also reported that Marvel is determined to appoint an African-American director for “Black Panther” and a female director to helm “Captain Marvel”.

The news came on the heels of the recent report about the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) accusing studios, network, and talent agencies in Hollywood for discriminating female directors. ACLU asked for an investigation regarding the unfairness as majority of the directors are of the male gender.

Patty Jenkins, who was previously hired to helm “Thor: The Dark World”, was supposed to be the first-ever female director to helm a Marvel movie. However, she pulled out due to creative differences. If DuVernay is confirmed as the director of “Black Panther” or “Captain Marvel”, and stays with the production until the end, she will officially make history as the first female director for the MCU.

DuVernay is a director and a screenwriter who is known for directing the critically acclaimed movie, “Selma“. She was also the first female African-American director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for Best Picture.

“Black Panther” will make its way to cinemas on 6th July 2018, while “Captain Marvel” is scheduled for release on 2nd November 2018.
