It is always disheartening to hear that a popular shop or restaurant is closing, especially when it has long been a customer favourite. Two months ago, Don Don Donki announced the closure of its Sunway Pyramid outlet, offering discounts of up to 30%.
It seems that another store in the same shopping centre has shut its doors. According to a post on the Malaysia Shopping Mall Facebook page, the KyoChon 1991 outlet at Sunway Pyramid has officially ceased operations. The spot will reportedly soon be replaced with a Sushi King and Beryl’s Cafe.

The original post, published yesterday (Tuesday, 2nd September), has since gone viral on social media, particularly on Twitter. Many were surprised by the closure, as KyoChon 1991 was once very popular among shoppers. One user recalled that there used to be long queues of customers waiting to dine at the Korean restaurant.
Netizens were quick to respond to the news, speculating on the possible reasons behind the closure of this outlet. Some suggested that the service was not what it once was, with a noticeable decrease in portion sizes. Others expressed disappointment, saying it had been their preferred spot to eat or study since it’s no longer crowded as when it first launched. Several also argued that KyoChon’s popularity had waned with the rise of newer and more affordable competitors in the industry.

As for KyoChon Malaysia, the company has yet to address the closure of the Sunway Pyramid outlet. However, the brand recently announced plans to open a new branch at “one of the hottest lifestyle spots in town”. No further hints were shared, but all will be revealed when the time comes. As the saying goes, “When one door closes, another one opens”.
