It’s no secret that local influencer Cathryn Li (李元玲) isn’t afraid to speak her mind. For that reason, it’s no surprise that she didn’t hesitate to expose a local male celebrity for trying to borrow money from her.
Yesterday (4th February 2025, Tuesday), the social media personality took to Threads to share about a recent incident. According to Cathryn, a man who had been pursuing her for a few months suddenly asked to borrow RM38,000 from her. She also revealed that the man was a local celebrity, who allegedly needed the money to help out his company. Unfortunately, Cathryn never shared the man’s name, but hinted that he’s tall and handsome.

It’s believed that Cathryn has only known the man for roughly three months. The influencer then sought advice from netizens, asking if she should lend the man the money. Cathryn lamented that the man might ignore her if she didn’t lend him the money. However, she’s also conflicted as she’s worried about not being able to get her money back. Many netizens have since reacted to the post, generally expressing opposition.
Many netizens argued that the man was taking advantage of the influencer, even suggesting it might be a love scam. Others told her to trust her instincts and ignore the man’s request, adding that she shouldn’t trust the guy because she’s interested in him. There were also many netizens who questioned the man’s identity, even asking Cathryn to expose the man’s name.

Unfortunately, Cathryn didn’t share more details about the man or the incident. However, there may be a reason why potential scammers would target her. The influencer previously went viral for accidentally exposing her bank account, revealing an RM40 million balance. However, she also received quite a lot of heat for that incident, with many lamenting that Cathryn may have purposely shared her personal information to gain attention.
Whatever the case may be, we hope Cathryn practices caution when dealing with people, even if she knows them personally. What are your thoughts on this?
