While being an actor may seem glamorous, a career in the entertainment industry is often unpredictable. Many stars have spoken about the hardships they had to go through to stay relevant- but unfortunately for some, the lack of opportunities means having to switch to an entirely different career.
One of those stars is actress Sharisa Haris, who appeared in many local projects in the 2010s, including “Dunia Kita”, “Ariana Rose” and “Adellea Sofea”. She even received a nomination at the 2014 Anugerah Skrin. However, after her last project in 2019, the star seemed to have slowly faded away from the spotlight. As it turns out, the 34-year-old is currently working in the food industry, holding several positions in the kitchen.
In a recent TikTok video, Sharisa shared that she now works at a restaurant in her hometown, mainly tasked as a satay griller. She said she began working in the food industry in 2017 and started as a cleaner before moving to a server position. While it’s a stark difference from her previous career, Sharisa said it’s still a way to make a living. Besides grilling satay, she also makes roti canai for the restaurant.
In another video, the “Adellea Sofea” star said she never formally quit acting, but her career change happened naturally. She alluded that the lack of acting projects was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent movement control order (MCO). However, Sharisa does mention wanting to return to acting but is grateful that her current job can still support her and her family.
Many netizens and viewers of her previous projects voiced their support for Sharisa. Many said she shouldn’t be embarrassed about her current job as long as she’s making an honest living. Some also urged her to return to the entertainment industry, saying they would tune into any of her future projects.
However, some said they will continue supporting the restaurant she works at until she can make a comeback. It would be a shame to let our local talents go to waste, so we hope Sharisa will be able to make her comeback in showbiz.
