Who would’ve thought that the home of one of the most popular female rappers in the industry would look very familiar to Malaysians? Recently, American rapper Cardi B posted a photo of her home dining room – but Malaysian netizens can’t help but comment on how “local” it looks.
As seen in the screenshot below, the “WAP” artist captioned the photo of the dining area, ”Home”. However, she didn’t mention whether the room was at her Atlanta residence or New Jersey mansion. Nevertheless, the dining room appeared cosy, with hanging light fixtures and a black accent wall. Cardi’s dining table was a long marble table that suited the marble floor tiles and the chairs had green velvet upholstery.
Given the size of the dining room and combined with the fact that she’s one of the highest-paid recording artists in the world, Cardi’s dining room might not appear as grand as one might hope. Despite that, the 32-year-old received tons of comments from fans who praised the decor of her dining room. Some even said the space looks luxurious and fancy. However, the room also received comments from Malaysians – but more so for how unexpectedly local it looked.
According to Malaysian netizens, the rapper’s dining room resembles one of a typical Malaysian home in a gated and guarded community. Others said the decor made the room look like a Klang Valley model house or an Airbnb rental listing. Some even said the room gives off the vibe of a typical Malay influencer’s home.
These comments led to jokes about how the Grammy winner may have Malaysian taste or secretly have Malaysian blood. Funnily enough, some Malaysians also brought up the fact that the rapper made popiah (spring rolls), curry puff and fried noodles at her home a few years back, solidifying their “Malaysian open house” joke.
