Many of us either spent the New Year’s with family and friends or at some of the countdown events around the country. However, local celebrity Phei Yong (培永) had to celebrate the first day of 2025 stuck on the highway.
The star took to Instagram to share his story after getting stuck on the highway on his way back to Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru. Phei Yong was in the southern state with his family to attend a New Year’s countdown event, returning to the capital in the early morning of 1st January 2025 (Wednesday). Unfortunately, the media personality forgot to refuel his car, leaving him and his family stranded on the highway.
Through his Instagram post, Phei Yong called himself a “life idiot”, saying he often forgets to refuel his cars before starting a journey. He even stopped at a petrol station to grab snacks for the car ride back to KL but still forgot to refuel. Thankfully, Plus Expressway staff assisted by retrieving petrol for Phei Yong’s car so he and his family could return home.
The 30-year-old also shared photos of him with the staff, which he took to commemorate the incident. The staff also jokingly asked Phei Yong to include the Plus Malaysia hashtag on his post, to which the star complied. In his post, he also thanked the staff for their efficiency, saying that refuelling his car took less than 30 minutes. Phei Yong also said that he will happily pay toll fees from now on to show his thanks.
Many of Phei Yong’s friends and fans have reacted to the incident, mostly laughing at the star’s New Year’s predicament. Some even joked that the star should reach out to Plus Highway for collaboration, given how the staff saved him. The official Plus Malaysia Instagram account also responded to the content creator’s post, thanking him for his kind words and wishing him a happy new year.
While it’s not the best start to the new year, it is the most memorable. We hope this incident will remind Phei Yong to check the gas before every car ride, and we hope he’ll have a better 2025 from now on.
