#KongSkullIsland: Post-Credits Scene Was Almost Deleted; Godzilla To Appear Next

It has now become a trend for movie franchises to set up for future films. “Kong: Skull Island” is no exception.

After the credits, viewers got to see a bonus scene that helps set up the new Godzilla and King Kong universe. The larger MonsterVerse will lead into the ultimate showdown in 2020’s “Godzilla vs. Kong”.

If you’re still puzzled by the post-credits scene, do read on at your own risk. But be warned that there will be spoilers for “Kong: Skull Island”.

In the clip, James Conrad (played by Tom Hiddleston) and Mason Weaver (played by Brie Larson) are being interrogated by the Monarch company. The company wants the pair to keep what they discovered at Skull Island a secret.

Houston Brooks (played by Corey Hawkins) and San (played by Tian Jing) reveal that the monsters they battled on Skull Island aren’t the only mythic beasts on earth. Conrad and Weaver soon learn of the existence of Godzilla. They are also shown a series of slides including a huge moth (Mothra), a pterodactyl-like creature (Rodan), and a multi-headed dragon (King Ghidorah).

Back in 2014, Legendary Pictures unveiled a teaser reel quite similar to the slideshow presented by Brooks and San. Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah are all iconic monsters who happen to be Godzilla’s most famous enemies. It is expected that Godzilla will face off against these creatures in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters”.

Since 2014’s “Godzilla” took place in the present day, while “Kong: Skull Island” was set in 1973, it’s unlikely that Hiddleston, Larson, Hawkins, and Jing will return for “Godzilla vs. Kong”. We’re totally cool with a new cast of characters since many of us are showing up for the giant monsters anyway.

According to Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Legendary Pictures actually pulled the post-credits scene at one point, only to restore it later. “We shot that during production, and it was actually one of those things that they had taken off the movie at one point. For some reason, there was concern about it, and I was really happy when everyone decided let’s bring this back. I think that’s what people want to know is happening,” said the director.

We’re certainly glad that we got a taste of what’s to come. “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is expected to hit theatres on 22nd March 2019, while “Godzilla vs. Kong” is scheduled for 29th May 2020.
