The issue of polygamy is a sensitive topic among many, including Malaysians. Many have opposed the idea, especially when some celebrities have treated the subject very lightly. However, not all polygamous marriages have been met with backlash. Earlier this year, a Sabah man’s marriage to two wives was celebrated by netizens.
A man marrying two women, although rare, is not necessarily out of the ordinary in Malaysia – but a man marrying three women? Now that’s something you definitely don’t hear every day. Recently, a Facebook user announced that he has officially married his third wife, whom he had known for at least 3 years.

Entrepreneur Amirul Hakimin revealed that it took 3 years to finally marry his third wife with the approval of his first two. The man first thanked his parents for giving their blessings to the marriage before showing gratitude to his first two wives who helped organise the wedding ceremony. “One was the wedding planner while the other handled the goodie bags. They even helped with picking out the perfect wedding attire,” he wrote.
The man then thanked his guests, particularly those from the Malaysian Polygamy Harmony Organization, for attending the grand event. “Thank you to everyone within the polygamy community who attended with their partners. Our community needs to set better examples to prove that polygamous marriage can be harmonious. Polygamy isn’t new, but I’ll admit that it has become an issue due to certain problematic cases,” he said hoping to raise awareness among netizens.

Scrolling through the comments, Amirul Hakimin’s third marriage has received mixed reactions. Some congratulated him and praised him for being able to treat all three wives fairly. Others expressed that they couldn’t care less about his polygamous lifestyle but felt that he didn’t need to raise awareness or advocate for the acceptance of polygamy. A few were also baffled that such an organisation exists for those who are in polygamous marriages.
This recent viral marriage further proves that Malaysians will never come to an agreement when it comes to polygamy. What are your thoughts on Amirul’s story?
