#JusticeLeague: New Details Reveal How The Flash, Cyborg, & Aquaman Are Recruited

Although “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” may still be fresh in some people’s minds for its letdown, DC Comics and Warner Bros. are already moving forward with “Suicide Squad” (out 4th August) and next year’s “Wonder Woman“.

But perhaps the biggest movie yet from the DC Films universe will be the highly-anticipated “Justice League”. Not wasting anytime, the studio has released the film’s official synopsis as well as the new character recruitment details for The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman.

The synopsis reads:

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of meta-humans to stand against this newly awakened threat.

“But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”

Although the synopsis doesn’t mention the main villain by name, various sources have said the big bad will be Steppenwolf (who is expected to lead Darkseid’s army of Parademons in “Justice League”). He was first seen in the “Knightmare” scene from “Batman v Superman” and was in the deleted scene when Lex Luthor was looking at the Kryptonian archives and sees a monstrous figure with 3 cube like objects.

With an alien invasion on the way, Batman has decided that he could use some extra help defending Mother Earth from the forces of Darkseid in the wake of Superman’s absence. Enter the Justice League: DC’s first formal alliance of meta-humans consisting of Batman himself (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and eventually Superman (Henry Cavill).

Thankfully, Batman isn’t in this alone. Having fought alongside both The Dark Knight and Man of Steel, and already privy to the existence of meta-humans (thanks to the stolen files from Luthor), Wonder Woman will prove to be an invaluable alliance in Batman’s recruitment effort. It’s fortunate that there’s at least 1 team member onboard from the get-go because not all of the Justice League members will be easily convinced.

As opposed to Batman and Wonder Woman’s serious personalities, Barry Allen/The Flash will provide a much needed humorous side to “Justice League”. As the first recruit (he impulsively agrees to join before Bruce even finishes his sentence), Miller’s version of The Flash is “young and fun and full of life, and excited about what they’re doing”.

Although Victor Stone/Cyborg initially turned down Wonder Woman’s offer when she first tried to recruit him, he changes his mind and joins the Justice League when his father, Silas Stone, becomes the latest victim to be captured by Parademons. Like The Flash, Cyborg will also provide a lighter dynamic to the team.

According to Screen Rant, Arthur Curry/Aquaman will most likely be the last recruit for the Justice League. Describing the Atlantean king as “strong, stubborn, independent, and powerful”, Affleck told journalists during the SDCC 2016 that “Aquaman’s a very strong character, played by a very strong actor with a very strong personality. I don’t think he’s the sort of guy who at any point in his life takes orders from people.”

As H. Shaw-Williams points out, every member of the team is either the leader of their own people, or accustomed to working alone, so getting them to cooperate as a cohesive team isn’t going to be easy.

“Justice League” will debut in theatres on 17th November 2017.
