It’s about time!

The 51km MRT Sungai Buloh–Kajang line – the first of the 3 planned Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit lines to be constructed – is about to receive their riders.

Source: The Star

The line starts from Sungai Buloh (located to the north-west of Kuala Lumpur), running through the city centre of Kuala Lumpur before ending in Kajang, a fast developing town located to the south-east of Kuala Lumpur. Serving as a corridor with an estimated population of 1.2 million people, it will run underground for a distance of 9.5km beneath the centre of Kuala Lumpur while the rest of the alignment is elevated.

The line will have 31 stations, of which 7 will be underground. The underground stations are:

  1. Muzium Negara – Theme: Transition, History of Kuala Lumpur’s Public Transportation
  2. Pasar Seni – Theme: Confluence Between Two Rivers
  3. Merdeka – Theme: Independence, Spirit of Nationhood
  4. Bukit Bintang – Theme: Dynamic
  5. Tun Razak Exchange – Theme: Islamic Corporate
  6. Cochrane – Theme: Urban Living
  7. Maluri – Theme: New Generation

Each train set serving the line will have 4 cars, allowing a total capacity of 1,200 passengers. The daily ridership is estimated to be about 400,000 passengers and the trains will run at a frequency of 3.5 minutes.

The lowest single stop fare based on the cash fare structure is expected to be priced at RM1.10 (e.g. between Merdeka and Pasar Seni stations), while the maximum cash fare structure is RM6.40 (RM5.50 for cashless fare structure).

We don’t know about you but the video sure looks hella good. We’re excited!

The 7 underground stations are slated to be opened to the public on 17th July 2017. #JomNaikMRT? 🙂
