When you’re in a relationship, there’s a tendency to show your partner off. You’ll want the world to know you’re dating, and who you’re dating. It can be cute, but apparently, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen (陈乔恩) doesn’t think so any more.
Joe met her husband, Malaysian actor Alan Chen (曾伟昌) on a dating show in 2019. Three years later, in March 2022, the duo happily tied the knot. Now, they are figuring out the married life together. While Joe has been perfectly happy with the state of her relationship, there was one thing she regretted; making it public knowledge.
Taiwanese show “Viva La Romance (妻子的 浪漫旅行)” recently invited Joe on to talk about life after marriage. However, during the show, Joe shared something surprising. When asked if she would choose to disclose her relationship, if given another chance, Joe said no.
“I wouldn’t choose to make it public,” she stated before explaining. Joe shared that after they had revealed their relationship, netizens had left malicious messages for Alan. “I really want to say that (I) brought this into our lives, but he never said a single negative (thing) to me,” Joe said. “He firmly chose to stand with me.” Joe added that this was also the reason why she had taken a hiatus for two years.
That certainly hasn’t changed. On another episode of “Viva La Romance”, Joe and Alan got into a spat. Joe supposedly told Alan he was being inconsiderate, self-centred and contradictory. It startled Alan at the time, and he later apologised. However, fans reprimanded Alan publicly, which distressed Joe.
Joe and Alan will have officially been married for a whole year by March. Although their marriage life hasn’t been smooth, their relationship has certainly gotten stronger. Fans too have since declared their support for the couple, reassuring Joe that they were happy for her.
This isn’t the first time Joe’s relationship with Alan has come under scrutiny. Previously, there were rumours claiming Joe and Alan’s parents were against their relationship. There has also been much speculation over Joe being pregnant. Well, we hope the couple will be able to have a peaceful time after this!
