Given his level of fame, Jay Chou (周杰伦) is no stranger to unfounded rumours and accusations. Recently, the Mandopop icon was caught up in rumours that he fathered an illegitimate child with his former business partner.
The issue began when a Chinese paparazzi named Zhuo Wei claimed that a three-character superstar in the Chinese music scene had developed a romantic relationship with a woman surnamed Liu. Zhuo Wei alleged that the woman eventually gave birth to a child out of wedlock. While the paparazzi didn’t name the man, he provided clues about the individual, including that he co-owns a catering and entertainment company.
Based on the clues provided, netizens subsequently speculated that Jay Chou and his former business partner, Liu Rouxue, were the superstar and woman in question. Despite no verifiable evidence for the claims, the allegations went viral on social media. In response to the accusations, Jay Chou’s management, JVR Music, issued a statement, firmly rejecting the online speculation.
In the statement released on 6th August 2026 (Thursday), JVR Music said, “The relevant online rumours are all false information and purely malicious fabrications. We strongly condemn the deliberate insinuations and attention-seeking behaviour aimed at gaining traffic.” The company also emphasised that it will take legal action against anyone who fabricates or disseminates false information.
Jay Chou hasn’t directly addressed the claims. However, his recent social media activity suggests he’s unaffected by the circulating rumours. On the other hand, music director Yanis Huang, who worked with Jay Chou on his many tours, did share a post on his personal social media alluding to the whole ordeal. In the post, the music director expressed support for the singer, writing, “A clear conscience fears no false accusations”.
Fans have also started presenting details and a timeline to refute the rumours and help clear Jay Chou’s name. As this appears to be another attempt to tarnish the singer’s image, we hope his agency will take action against those who made the claims with malicious intent.
