Many of us have our fair share of awkward airport stories. However, Japanese rock singer GACKT (ガクト) had an unfortunate incident where an airport staff outright questioned his gender.
The J-Rock icon recently shared an anecdote of him on Twitter, telling what happened to him while he was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). According to GACKT, he had just arrived at the airport when he was stopped for a security inspection. However, the male airport staff inspecting him hesitated to touch the singer. GACKT then asked the staff if something was wrong before receiving the response, “Are you a male?”.

It appears the staff was confused by GACKT’s appearance, picking his features as effeminate. The 51-year-old was taken aback by the question, helplessly writing in his post, “Please! How can you stop a man in his 50s and ask such a question?”. He then ended his post, remarking, “I am a man among men!”. He also shared a selfie to show how he looked during the awkward encounter.
Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time a security officer was confused by GACKT’s appearance. In a separate tweet, the singer shared that a guard at a Las Vegas casino once stopped him from entering the premises, assuming he was a minor. However, GACKT was 45 years old at that time, so when he showed the security guard his passport to verify his age, the latter cursed out in surprise.

Many fans have reacted to the stories, mostly expressing amusement over GACKT’s unfortunate interactions with security guards. However, some quipped that the two incidents were praise for the rockstar’s visuals. For those wondering why the musician was at KLIA, GACKT resides in Malaysia. The singer lives in a mansion on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur and frequently travels in and out of the country for work.
While the incident would’ve left anyone embarrassed – perhaps even angry – we’re glad GACKT could find some rumour in the situation. What are your thoughts on this?
