Skechers, The Comfort Technology Company™ and a leader in performance footwear, recently marked the grand reopening of its expanded and revamped flagship store at Bugis Junction, Singapore. Now spanning more than 4,100 square feet, the upgraded space offers a bigger, bolder retail experience, drawing thousands of fans, shoppers, media representatives, and influencers from across Southeast Asia.
Adding to the excitement, MINNIE (민니/มินนี่) of I-DLE (아이들) joined Skechers to officially unveil the store, electrifying the atmosphere with her appearance as fans cheered her on at every moment. We had the chance to catch up with the singer to talk about her special appearance, ongoing solo projects, and the possibility of future collaborations with Skechers.
What was your first reaction when you were invited to be part of this Skechers event in Singapore?
I was honestly so excited! I’ve always loved Skechers. So to be invited to such a big event in Singapore is truly an honour. It made me feel really special.
You’re known for blending comfort and cool styles. How does Skechers fit into your day-to-day wardrobe?
Well, I think Skechers is the perfect fit for a comfortable yet stylish look. Personally, I like wearing something that’s fashionable but also really comfortable, especially since I travel a lot and spend a lot of time practising. So I prefer footwear that I can wear all day without any discomfort, and I think Skechers really delivers on both comfort and style. So yes, I really like it.
You wear both sneakers and high heels quite often, but if you had to choose between the two, which do you prefer?
For daily life, definitely sneakers—they’re just so comfortable, and I can walk around in them all day.
Speaking of sneakers, what are your fashion tips for styling them well?
I usually like wearing low-waisted baggy jeans with a crop top—it helps make my legs look longer. I’ll sometimes add a cool belt to complete the look.
If Skechers were to collaborate with you on a shoe design, what would you personally add to it?
I really like the idea of having charms on shoes, so I think I’d design some cute ones that represent me. Since pink is my favourite colour, I’d probably add some pink accents or decorations throughout the design too.
Your fashion sense is bold yet effortless. Who or what has been inspiring your style lately?
Lately, I wouldn’t say there’s one specific person who inspires me. I think it really depends on my mood, the weather, or where I’m going. I tend to choose my outfits based on the occasion and how I’m feeling that day.
You’re one of the main vocalists for I-DLE and also pursue solo projects. How do you balance your group and solo activities?
Wow, that’s a tough one. I always prioritise our group schedules first—those come before anything else. Then, I focus on my solo activities whenever there’s time. We usually manage our schedules by putting the group’s commitments first, and I work on my own music whenever I have a bit of space.
Lastly, fans loved your role in “So Not Worth It” back in 2021. It’s been a while—would you consider returning to acting?
Oh, definitely yes! If I have the time and the opportunity to act again, I’d absolutely love to.
The grand reopening ceremony also included exclusive fan experiences with MINNIE in a specially designated VIP Fan Zone. Guests were treated to a variety of engaging activities, including a Skechers charms bar where they could personalise their sneakers, as well as a themed photo booth experience.
Skechers’ new flagship store at Bugis Junction now joins its iconic outlet at Jewel Changi Airport as a key retail destination in Singapore, further strengthening the brand’s presence while offering shoppers a dynamic blend of comfort, style, and innovation.
