This year’s D23 Expo is filled with exciting news and one of them is the first trailer for “A Wrinkle In Time”.
Based on a science fantasy novel written by American writer Madeleine L’Engle, the Ava DuVernay-directed film boasts a star-studded cast including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
“A Wrinkle In Time” follows a girl named Meg (played by Storm Reid), her genius brother Charles (played by Deric McCabe), and her best friend Calvin (played by Levi Miller) as they travel through time and space in order to find and rescue their missing father, Dr. Alex Murry (played by Chris Pine).
The trailer (above) features Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dream”, jaw-breaking graphics, and some very exciting action shots.
“Your father has accomplished something extraordinary, also dangerous. He’s trapped by a darkness that’s actively spreading throughout the universe. And the only one who can stop it, is you. Be a warrior,” narrates Winfrey’s character, Mrs. Which.
DuVernay, who became the first black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of over USD100 million with this film, said that she was drawn to the 1963 novel because she saw herself in it.
“The thing that attracted me to the project is that I saw myself in it, and I saw so many different kinds of people in it. It’s a family story wrapped in an epic adventure, where you see worlds you’ve never seen before,” she shared.
Besides that, Winfrey who was also at the event over the weekend, told the crowd that she hadn’t read the book when DuVernay first approached her about the role.
She said, “When Ava mentioned it to me and told me it was a character who is one of the wisest women in the universe and is an angelic, celestial being who is going to get to wear amazing costumes and get to work with Reese and Mindy as part of the Mrs. team — who wouldn’t say yes to that?”
Penned by Jennifer Lee, who wrote and co-directed “Frozen” with Chris Buck, “A Wrinkle In Time” is slated for release on 9th March 2018.
