Honda car owners, before you rush to the nearest Honda service centre to change your airbags, take note of this.
It seems like Honda Malaysia is currently facing a shortage of their Airbag replacement units. However, they explained that they are doing everything within their means to secure more units for Honda owners that have not replaced their airbags.
This shortage will affect car owners that were included in the 2015 and June 2016 recall exercise. Models involved are Accord, City, Civic, CR-V, Freed, Insight, Jazz, Stream, and Odyssey.
This announcement comes as one of Honda’s Takata single stage driver’s airbag inflator ruptured during a car accident involving a 2005 Honda City. This particular model was involved in the 2015 recall. The accident, which happened on 26th June, caused the death of the driver.
The car maker explained that 3 mailed recall notices related to the airbag inflator recalls were sent to the owner, but records indicate that the recall repair was never completed.
Just last month, Honda Malaysia issued a statement explaining that 147,894 units of Honda vehicles were to be recalled to replace the front passenger airbag inflator.
