Hobbitoon Village: New Hobbit-Inspired Attraction Opens Near Cameron Highlands

Ever since the first “The Lord of the Rings” movie was released back in 2001, many have longed to visit New Zealand as the trilogy was filmed in several key locations in the country. What if you could visit one of the iconic locations without booking a 10-hour flight to another continent?

Earlier this week, it was announced that the new attraction near Cameron Highlands, Hobbitoon Village, has officially opened to the public! According to their posts on Instagram, the new tourist attraction was inspired by The Shire, a fictional region as described in “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” series.

The Shire is an inland area settled exclusively by hobbits, largely sheltered from the goings-on in the rest of the fictional Middle-earth. The Hobbitoon Village is located approximately 21km from Cameron Highlands and it is a 35-minute drive from Simpang Pulai. As you can see in the photos posted on their Instagram, the village is definitely reminiscent of the fictional region by author J.R.R. Tolkien.

For now, only one house is accessible as the management is still working on decorating the rest of the houses. Keep in mind that the Hobbitoon Village is not to be mistaken with the Hobbit House in Cameron Highlands Flora Park. While the attraction is not a homestay experience, visitors can still immerse themselves in the beautiful fantasy world and take as many photos as they want.

Of course, a tourist attraction wouldn’t be complete without a souvenir shop and a cafe, which you find on the site itself. If you wish to visit the new Hobbitoon Village, it is open every day from at 9am to 6pm. Tickets are priced at RM20 for children and RM40 for adults.
