Many Hong Kong stars are familiar with Malaysia, having visited numerous times for work and fun. Recently, it was reported that two big names in the HK entertainment industry will soon make their way to our shores to work on an upcoming project.
Astro Malaysia recently held their “Astro Spotlight Reveal 2025” event, unveiling the list of original Chinese-language productions in its 2025 roster. The entertainment giant has a lot of exciting projects planned for the rest of the year, including new series, movies and variety shows. However, the one that caught the most attention is the drama “The Exiled (义和)”, as it includes two well-known HK stars, Chris Lai Lok-Yi (黎诺懿) and Ali Lee (李佳芯).

The drama tells the story of the power reshuffle of a small-town gang after the death of their boss. “The Exiled” will feature an ensemble cast of Malaysian, Singaporean and Hong Kong actors. As the series takes place in Malaysia, Astro revealed that both Chris and Ali will be coming to town later this year for the filming. Not much is known about the filming or the rest of the cast lineup, but the drama will be released at the end of the year.
Other highlights from Astro’s 2025 lineup are “Step Dave (我的鲜肉老爸)” and “Bride From The Past (幽冥新娘)”. “Step Dave” is a remake of the New Zealand comedy-drama of the same name. It’s set for a June release and stars Malaysian actress Lynn Lim (林绿) and Singaporean actor Glenn Yong (容启航). Meanwhile, “The Bride Of The Underworld” is expected to be broadcast in September and is about the fantasy journey between humans and ghosts. It stars Emily Chan (陳子穎) and Jordan Sen (盛天俊).

Astro also highlighted a few variety shows, including the ever-popular “Astro Classic Golden Melody (Astro经典名曲歌唱大赛2025)”. Joining the show’s 25th edition is veteran HK star Nancy Sit (薛家燕), who will serve as the show’s newest judge. Astro also announced the return of its original singing competition, “Let’s Go, Big Shots! (新秀 崛起吧!)”. The new season will be helmed by Malaysia’s very own Priscilla Abby (蔡恩雨) and Phei Yong (培永), with Mandopop star Nicholas Teo (张栋梁) also participating.
It seems Astro has a lot of exciting projects lined up for 2025! Which ones are you most looking forward to?
