Hong Kong actress Amy Yip (叶子楣) hasn’t been around in the spotlight for decades although some of her peers have something to say about her looks nowadays. The actress has been living a fairly normal life away from the entertainment industry but many have wondered if she’ll ever make a return to the big screen.

It seems that fans’ wishes have come true as the 57-year-old revealed that she’ll be appearing in a movie that is set to be released sometime this year. Here’s everything she shared about her comeback:

During an interview with a Hong Kong radio station AsOne over the weekend, Amy Yip shared more details about her upcoming project with director Philip Chan (陈欣健) who pitched the movie idea to her recently and commented on how she has kept herself in great shape. At first, the actress told the director that she had no interest in stepping back into the spotlight but was encouraged by her friends to reconsider.

“My friends told me, ‘You have kept yourself so well, you should consider it.’ When I pondered about it, I really thought that I should have a plan. I realised I am still addicted to acting. I am really happy about it because I still like acting very much,” she said. Known as a sex symbol, the “Queen of the Underworld” star shared that her new role will be very different from her previous ones.

“It’s definitely not the path that I took previously. I want to have a breakthrough, with options to expand my creativity in acting. The role isn’t just about being sexy,” she elaborated. Amy is famously known for her voluptuous figure and her roles in Hong Kong’s Category 3 (R-rated) movies such as “The Inspector Wears Skirts”, “Ghostly Vixen” and “Sex and Zen”. Her last screen project was the 1994 movie “Underground Judgement” before she retired from the entertainment industry in 1997.

During the same radio interview, Amy talked about her late boyfriend of 26 years who died of a heart attack back in 2018. The couple broke up at one point due to him not fully trusting her but reconciled. She also shared why they never got married saying, “When a man divorces, he has to give half of his assets to his ex-wife. [My boyfriend] should also leave his medical clinic to his son. We were not married and I think maybe he felt he owed his son something because of me.”

When speaking about his death, the actress revealed how she tried to stay strong after receiving the news but broke down with his family members when they came to visit. Thankfully, she was able to pull through during the most difficult times in her life and is now focusing on her future.
