When opening a chain, there should be an expectation that business won’t always be smooth-sailing. After just over a year of operation, Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh is reportedly looking to close down.

On 3rd November 2025 (Monday), Scott’s Hard Rock, a Facebook page dedicated to rock and roll and the Hard Rock franchise, reported about the Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh’s closure. The post writes, “Management of Scott’s Hard Rock is sad to report that, after only rocking for 1 year, HARD ROCK CAFE IPOH in Malaysia, will be closing on December 1st. It was told to me because it just wasn’t busy enough to support it.”

The post also included a thank-you note for the staff at the location for their hard work in managing the cafe. However, Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh’s official social media hasn’t confirmed the rumours. If true, the closure would happen just slightly over a year after the location opened its doors in March 2024. The closure would also mark the 9th Hard Rock Cafe branch to cease operations this year.

In the comment section, fans expressed disappointment in the news. However, many locals argued that the closure was expected, given the lack of marketing and crowd. Some even lamented that they were unaware there was a Hard Rock Cafe in Ipoh. Others also argued that the city isn’t the best place to open a Hard Rock Cafe, noting that the concept of the famed F&B franchise isn’t suitable for the demographic.

While the closure saddened many fans, there are many Hard Rock Cafes and hotels still operating in other cities in Malaysia. Earlier this year, the franchise welcomed its Genting Highland branch, located within the Grand Ion Majestic. The Hard Rock Cafe in Kuala Lumpur and Puteri Harbour are also busy with new events weekly. Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast also recently wrapped up its month-long Pinktober activations.

The news isn’t confirmed yet, but the store did recently announce a sale on official merchandise. So, if you plan to visit the Hard Rock Cafe in Ipoh, you should definitely do it now, before it closes.
