Celebrities posing with animals can be cute but who knew it could also be controversial? Previously, singer Baby Shima and actress Tiz Zaqyah were previously criticised for being seen next to a dog despite no physical contact. It looks like actress Maya Karin has become the new target of online harassment after posting a photo of herself walking some dogs at a park in the US.
Over the weekend, veteran star Maya Karin posted a carousel post on her Instagram of her work trip to the US with producer and filmmaker James Gutierrez, who is rumoured to be her current boyfriend. “Day out in Los Angeles with @jamesg_champ and his babies 🐈🐢🦚🌵🌞🌞,” the actress captioned the post and the babies she was referring to were her lover’s adorable canines.
It’s clear that the “Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam” star just wanted to share the highlight of her day with the filmmaker and his pets. Sadly, many of her fans were not too keen on the idea that their idol being the one walking the dogs. As seen in the screenshots below, netizens bombarded the celeb’s post with comments to remind her that she should not be touching dogs while others advised her to avoid posting anything that’s deemed too sensitive as it would bring slander.
A few even called her out for living such a “Western lifestyle” that she could just freely post a photo like this without thinking of the consequences. Fortunately for Maya, many came to her defence saying she’s a grown woman who is fully aware of her actions. Others argued that she could easily cleanse herself if she did touch the dogs that day.
Some commented that Malaysians shouldn’t be too triggered whenever a celeb poses with a dog in photos or videos. Maya herself hasn’t said anything about the responses left by netizens and probably won’t. Whatever the case, we hope that she’ll continue to enjoy her time in the States before returning to Malaysia.
