GSC Outlet In Johor Forced To Close Due To Terrible Flood

The weather has been very unpredictable lately. Last month, Bentong, Pahang was struck by a terrible flood yet again. A local YouTuber even managed to catch the severity of the situation. Kuala Lumpur, obviously, wasn’t doing any better as a shopping centre basically became a water park thanks to the natural disaster.

If you noticed something was off about the weather yesterday, (Tuesday, 28th February), especially last night, you were not the only one. Moviegoers in Kota Tinggi, unfortunately, you’ll have to choose another date to watch your favourite actors on the big screen as your local cinema will not be open.

Golden Screen Cinemas (GCS) posted on Twitter earlier today (Wednesday, 1st March) that their outlet at Heritage Mall, Kota Tinggi, Johor is unable to operate due to the heavy flood surrounding the area. “The safety and well-being of our customers and employees are our top priority and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement reads.

The company also wrote that they will continue to monitor the situation and that customers will be updated on the reopening of the outlet as soon as possible. Customers who have recently booked their movie tickets online will be refunded within 14 working days whereas those with physical tickets will be refunded once the cinema reopens.

To give context on the severity of the flood situation, multiple sources have posted photos and videos to show the current state of Johor on social media. Several areas and districts in the state such as Kota Tinggi, Segamat, and Johor Bahru have been completely submerged by the flood.

According to HMetro, the number of flood victims in Johor has risen to nearly 6k at the time of writing. To further show the severity of the flood situation, Johor wasn’t the only state that was affected. Sabah, Sarawak, and Negeri Sembilan have all been struck by the same natural disaster. Overall, the number of victims in these 4 states has totaled 7,670 at the time of writing.

So far, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has yet to release a statement addressing the current phenomenon. We hope that the victims are safe from danger and that the rescue team, volunteers, and social workers are doing all they can to keep the situation under control.
