Weather in Malaysia now has two settings. Either ‘unbearably hot’ or ‘rain, rain and more rain’. But recently, it’s been raining pretty hard. With all this rain, locals have been wary of floods. Still, it came as quite the surprise to discover that a local mall became a water park yesterday (16th February)!
A video recently went viral online for showing a flooded shopping mall. To our surprise, it happened to be one of our own local malls, MyTown Shopping Centre in Cheras! Needless to say, netizens had plenty of comments to make about this damper of an incident.

Yesterday, Malaysia Shopping Mall uploaded a video to their socials showing the flooded mall. Staff were seen attempting to remove the water by running a squeegee over the floor. The video also showed a large amount of water collected on the tile area.
Reports claimed only one floor of MyTown Cheras had been affected. Shops on other floors were allegedly still open for business. However, one netizen mentioned that certain areas had been closed off and added that the mall had been “leaking”.

Netizens were quick to add comments to the video. “Water theme park,” one read, with another punning the mall’s name into “My Water Park“. “Management is so cheap,” another criticised. “Invest in more pumps.” One comment quipped: “They tried to follow Singapore airport but failed…” Others pointed out that this was not the first time it had happened. Many also took to the comments to ask what happened.

MyTown Cheras has since released a statement on their socials to warn visitors. “Please be informed that we are experiencing a water outflow at Food Town, Basement 1. For the safety of our tenants and shoppers, the affected area will be temporary cordoned off for cleaning,” the post reads.
It’s certainly unfortunate, both for the mall and its customers and tenants. Hopefully, they will be able to sort out their water issue soon.
