On the morning of 29th December 2024 (Sunday), the world was shocked by the devastating news of the Jeju Air flight 7C2216 crash. The flight was travelling from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan International Airport in South Korea, where it collided with a wall upon landing. Out of the 181 passengers, 179 passed away from the tragedy.

The crash is the worst aviation disaster to hit the country since 1997. The South Korean government has also announced a seven-day mourning period. The Korean entertainment industry has also joined the nation in mourning for the lives lost in the tragedy, with stars like G-Dragon (지드래곤), SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) leader S.COUPS (에스쿱스) and comedian Park Na-Rae (박나래) sharing tributes to the victims.

The trot singer, who had a concert scheduled on the same day as the crash, observed a moment of silence before the show. After the opening performance, he expressed his sorrow, saying, “Hearing the news of this plane crash and the loss of so many precious lives fills me with deep sadness. I offer my sincere condolences to the victims and their families.”

Other celebrities, including broadcaster Jeon Hyun-Moo (전현무), singer Sung Si-Kyung (성시경) and comedian Song Eun-Yi (송은이), also shared tributes to the crash victims. Many artist agencies have also postponed official activities, while broadcasters may cancel major year-end programmes out of respect. We extend our condolences to the victims’ loved ones, and may they rest in peace.
