From Penang To Selangor: 5 Accidents That Made Headlines In Malaysia This Week

It’s concerning that so many road accidents and incidents have been reported this week alone. That said, it’s not entirely surprising, as Paultan.org previously reported that 600,000 road accidents was recorded in 2023, with an average of 18 deaths every day.

Still, if one is not careful on the road, it could cost either their life, someone else’s, or both. Here are some of the accidents across Malaysia that made headlines this week.

1. MyVi crashes into a house (Undisclosed location)

Myvi has been dubbed the ‘King of the Roads’ due to reckless drivers, but who would have thought that the title would extend to someone’s home? In a TikTok video posted by @/faiz59_, a Myvi car apparently crashed into a house through the living room. What’s even more surprising is the fact that the vehicle managed to squeeze through a narrow corner before colliding with this family’s home.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the impact, but it left many baffled as to how the driver managed to achieve this. The location of the accident was not specified.

2. Perodua Viva falls into a massive drain (Penang)

While witnessing a car crashing into a drain may not be entirely unusual, this Perodua Viva caught other road users by surprise when it plunged several metres into a large drain. The accident occurred in Bukit Jambul, Penang and according to a Facebook post, the incident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a turn, possibly due to speeding. No updates on the driver’s well-being.

3. GD Express runs over a dog in a housing area (Selangor)

One should always drive at a slower pace when navigating through a residential area, especially when making a turn. Unfortunately, this GD Express (GDEX) delivery van not only failed to slow down at the speed bump but also ran over a dog that was sleeping on the road. The disturbing footage posted by Joseff Hoo on Facebook showed that the van ran over the helpless canine and seemingly drove away, leaving the poor animal rolling in pain. GDEX has since issued an apology for the incident.

Warning: The following video may be disturbing to some readers. Please proceed with caution:

4. Porsche slams into Toyota Vellfire (Penang)

There must be something in the water in Penang with this many road accidents happening. A video posted on the Penang Idiot Parking & Reckless Driver Facebook page earlier this week went viral showing a speeding Porsche crashing into a Toyota Vellfire at the Gurney Paragon Mall outdoor parking lot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported but valet staff nearly got hit and onlookers were visibly shaken by the accident.

5. Driver crushed by falling lorry container (Penang)

Possibly one of the most tragic accidents this week. It was reported that a woman died on the spot after being crushed by a large container that had toppled over from a lorry. The accident, which took place near Bukit Tengah, Penang, occurred when the lorry made a sharp left turn, causing the container to detach and fall onto the driver in the car. The lorry driver is reportedly remanded for 4 days.
