The Script, an Irish rock band formed in 2001, has been making waves in the industry since their debut self-titled album, released in 2008. With performances worldwide and chart-topping albums, they have enjoyed significant success. They’re even slated to perform in Malaysia soon!
It’s been a while since they were last here, with their first and most recent concert taking place all the way back in 2015. It’s hard to believe it was 10 years ago! While we sit back and look forward to an energetic and exciting show, let’s take a moment to get to know the band a little better. Here are some interesting facts about The Script:
1. Danny O’Donoghue was a coach on “The Voice UK”

Danny O’Donoghue was one of the original coaches on “The Voice UK”. Danny was mentoring vocalists on seasons 1 and 2 of the singing reality show! However, after his mother, Ailish O’Donoghue, died in 2013, the singer left the show, choosing instead to focus on his band.
2. Danny shared his pay from “The Voice” with his bandmates

So we know that Danny used to coach on “The Voice”, but did you know that, apparently, the frontman of the band actually shared his salary from the show with his band members? That’s some dedication to his teammates right there. Such generosity is quite a rare trait to have!
3. Band name inspired by time in L.A.

In a video interview with Today, The Script revealed the origin of their now-iconic band name. As it turns out, it was inspired by their time in Los Angeles. According to the members, everyone in L.A. was constantly talking about scripts, so they began greeting each other by asking “What’s the script?” instead of the usual “What’s up”.
4. Broke a Guinness World Record

Speaking of the generosity from earlier, it seems that this trait extends further than just within the band members. It also reached all the way to 8000 of their fans! During a show in Ireland, The Script spent £22,000 (roughly RM121,741) on drinks for the concertgoers. This was done in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, a significant Irish holiday. In doing this, the band managed to set a Guinness World Record for “largest round of drinks bought”. They then had a massive toast during the concert, enjoying a good time with their fans.
5. All albums hit #1 in Ireland

It’s always an impressive feat when a band hits number 1 on the charts. Well, The Script has managed to do this with every studio album they’ve released so far. On the Irish Official Charts, the rock band is a well-known name. Their last album “Satellites” continued the tradition and took the number 1 spot, following in the footsteps of their other albums – “The Script”, “Science and Faith”, “#3”, “No Sound Without Silence”, “Freedom Child” and “Sunsets & Full Moons”.
6. The Script’s music was used in “Vampire Diaries”

One of the most iconic shows of the 2000s is “Vampire Diaries”. This show raised an entire generation, and The Script was actually a part of the soundtrack! In episode 6 of season 2, you can hear “This = Love” as the music for one of the scenes. It’s a pleasant surprise for any of their fans who happen to be watching this show.
7. Glen Power almost fainted during a concert

Back in 2011, during one of The Script’s shows in Birmingham, England, Glen Power almost passed out onstage. This particular concert had around 16,000 attendees, and the drummer came very close to fainting in front of them. According to the musician, he had been drinking from the previous night until 6am, which was what caused him to feel unwell during the show. This was actually the incident that sparked his long journey to sobriety.
