Worth the Wait (2025)

Aptly timed with the Merdeka month celebrations, this heartfelt story follows multiple Asian-American strangers as their lives fatefully intertwine through love, loss, and reconnection, with Malaysia providing the perfect backdrop to it all. With at least 10 scenes filmed in Malaysia, the movie highlights the country’s natural beauty, vibrant local heritage, mouth-watering food, and the warm hospitality we’re known for. From scenic kampung roads to colourful markets, Malaysia plays a subtle but striking role in the film’s emotional journey.
Thunderbolts (2025)

In this Marvel anti-hero thriller, Malaysia takes centre stage with KL’s towering skyscrapers and bustling streets providing the perfect setting for high-stakes action. One standout location is Merdeka 118, the world’s second-tallest building, which makes a dramatic appearance in the movie. As mentioned by Thunderbolts star Florence Pugh in an interview, she described the towering skyscraper as a “mad, mad experience,” revealing that there were little to no rehearsals before shooting the daring scene.
Ace (2025)

This slick action-heist thriller features Indian and Southeast Asian cast members in a fast-paced story of ambition, betrayal, and redemption. JB’s gritty cityscape and KL’s urban glamour offer the perfect contrast for the story’s twists and turns.
Skywalkers: A Love Story (2024)

This nerve-wracking documentary-style film follows two real-life daredevils who illegally scale one of the world’s tallest buildings, which just so happens to be the Merdeka 118 once again. Equal parts adrenaline and romance, the film captures breathtaking rooftop views and a city that never sleeps.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

While most of the film is set in Singapore, key scenes like the glamorous wedding reception and some iconic mansion exteriors were actually filmed in Malaysia. Langkawi’s lush landscapes and KL’s colonial architecture helped bring this blockbuster to life.
