Rejoice! “Nimona” will be seen on big screen soon.
An adaptation is in the works as it was reported that Fox Animation has picked up the rights to the New York Times’ best selling graphic novel “Nimona” by Noelle Stevenson.
Patrick Osborne, the director behind the Oscar-winning Disney animated short film “Feast“, is on board to direct the movie from the script written by Marc Haimes. Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment will be overseeing the project.
The adaptation is described as follows:
Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are…But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.
Written and drawn by Noelle Stevenson, who is also the co-creator of “Lumberjanes”, “Nimona” was “born” while Stevenson was still a student at Maryland Institute College of Art. It was recently published in full as a graphic novel by HarperTeen. The critically acclaimed novel has been nominated for Harvey and Eisner Award.
On the other hand, director Osborne was the head of animation for “Big Hero 6” and has previously worked on various Disney projects including “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Paperman” while a former DreamWorks executive Marc Haimes has penned a number of screenplays like “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “The Last Word”.
