After last year, many Malaysians have a healthy fear of floods, for good reason. Unfortunately, with the heavy rainfall again today (7th March), it seems waters are rising once again.

Reports have been coming in on Twitter regarding flash floods in certain parts of KL. While the water in some areas only comes up to the tires, other areas have submerged cars.

At the time of writing, Twitter netizens have reported areas such as Kuchai Lama, Pudu, and KLCC have been flooded. Some cars are being driven carefully through the flood. Other drivers have no choice but to wait out the waters as they are trapped with cars rendered immobile. Most citizens are opting to stay safe indoors. However, those already on the road are being advised to drive safely to avoid accidents and their cars damaged due to the floods.

The flash flood has also caused Sungai Bunus to overflow, according to news portal Bernama. This is especially concerning to those around the area. Additionally, certain locations affected by the flash floods will be having their power supply cut.

Some netizens are bemoaning the lack of care by the authorities. “When planning the town, did (they) test everything? A drainage system, even the earlier civilizations knew how to do drains!” one comment read. Another pointed out that driving in Klang Valley has become more dangerous.

“That is why I don’t want to drive when it’s raining even though there are many jobs,” a Twitter user said, explaining that they were a Grab driver. Others were praying for the safety of those caught in the floods, that they would manage to hold out.

We hope the flash flood recedes soon. In the meantime, please stay safe, everyone!
