Previously, experts debated whether Luckin Coffee, a coffeehouse chain from China, should open an outlet in Malaysia, given the competition from major brands such as ZUS Coffee and Starbucks. Well, it looks like the brand is opening its first outlet in Malaysia.

Malaysia-listed Hextar Industries Berhad, through its subsidiary, Global Aroma Sdn Bhd (GASB) has signed an agreement with Luckin Coffee Holding Singapore Pte Ltd, allowing the brand to enter the Malaysian coffee market. As it turns out, the deal was made some time ago, as shoppers have noticed that a Luckin Coffee store is currently under development at Sunway Pyramid.

Founded in 2017, Luckin Coffee currently operates 21,343 stores globally as of the third quarter of 2024, and it is now confirmed that Malaysia will be added to this list. Several photos have been posted online showing that the coffee brand will soon be opening at Sunway Pyramid, making it the first Luckin Coffee outlet in Malaysia.

Although no specific date has been given, initial reports suggest that the outlet will open sometime in the first quarter of 2025. Netizens have reacted to the photos, with some expressing excitement about the brand’s debut in the country. Others have wondered how well it will perform compared to other brands. A few hope that the prices of the drinks will remain affordable, attracting even more customers.

In Singapore, the price of a cup of Luckin Coffee ranges from SGD$5 to SGD$8 (approximately RM16 to RM25). While that may be a bit pricey when converted to local currency, there is still a possibility that the drinks could be cheaper, if the soon-to-open local outlet follows the Chinese pricing.
