When it comes to popular movies or TV shows, remakes often captivate audiences, becoming cherished favourites for generations. Classics like “Alice in Wonderland,” “Baywatch,” and “Wicked“ have been reimagined multiple times, and fans continue to embrace these stories despite their repetitive nature. This enduring appeal has encouraged filmmakers to revisit beloved tales, sparking enthusiasm for new adaptations.
One such classic, “Snow White,” has been remade countless times over the years. From the 1997 dark retelling “Snow White: A Tale Of Terror” to 2012’s “Snow White And The Huntsman,” these films have consistently showcased talented actors. A pivotal character in these stories is the Evil Queen, whose portrayal often defines the film’s tone. While many actors have excelled in the role, fan opinions on these performances can sometimes be divisive.
This was evident recently when a social media post by user @/allurequinn sparked controversy. The post, which gained 5.4 million views, stated, “Gal Gadot, you will never be them,” comparing the Israeli actress—known for her iconic role as Wonder Woman—with Lana Parrilla and Charlize Theron, who played the Evil Queen in previous adaptations. The actress is set to star in the upcoming “Snow White” film, directed by Marc Webb, scheduled for release on 1st March 2025.
The post triggered a flood of comments, many agreeing that Charlize Theron remains the ultimate Evil Queen, with one user declaring, “Charlize Theron is hands down the best Evil Queen. No arguments.” Others shared edits of Lana Parrilla, celebrated for her performance in “Once Upon a Time,” and even brought up Angelina Jolie, who played Maleficent, another iconic Disney villain. Some critics argued that Gal’s association with Wonder Woman limits her versatility, while others dismissed her casting as unsuitable for such an iconic antagonist.
However, not all the feedback was negative. Some fans came to Gal’s defence, with one comment pointing out, “Jealousy and antisemitism aren’t a good look! Cope harder,” suggesting that much of the backlash might stem from bias rather than genuine concern about her acting abilities.
While it’s true that Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the Evil Queen will differ from those iconic predecessors, judging her performance before the film’s release seems premature. Until the film hits theatres, fans will have to wait to see if her performance enhances or hinders this highly anticipated remake.
