Looking for an affordable year-end getaway? Here is a creative way to save on travel costs while enjoying a relaxing holiday exploring three stunning destinations.

This five-day itinerary begins in Kedah, crossing over to Langkawi, and onward to Koh Lipe in Thailand. With redBus, you can enjoy seamless travel through advance-booked bus and ferry routes, and explore the ‘Things to Do’ feature to book tickets to local attractions and tours. As for accommodation, each destination offers a variety of options to suit your budget, from luxurious stays to affordable homestays and motels, so you can plan your holiday just the way you like it.

DAY 1: Kedah

Start your holiday on the right note by hopping on a redBus ride from your city or town to Kedah, skipping the stress of driving and beginning your journey in total relaxation.

Day one of your trip can begin with a dive into history with a visit to the Bujang Valley Archaeology Museum, Malaysia’s first archaeological museum. Here, you can marvel at fascinating artefacts from the Bujang Valley Archaeology site, one of Southeast Asia’s oldest known civilisations.

No trip to Kedah is complete without trying laksa Kedah, a local delicacy known for its rich flavours. As evening falls, head to the observation deck of the Alor Setar Tower for a panoramic view of the sparkling city lights and the serene Kedah countryside. Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll around Alor Setar town square, where you can explore the food stalls and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

DAY 2 – 3: Langkawi

On the second day, hop on a ferry to Langkawi from Kuala Kedah to begin the next exciting leg of your journey. Check out the newly available ferry route on redBus from RM34.50 per trip to ensure a smooth start to your island adventure.

When in Langkawi, island hopping is a must-do activity, where you will explore the stunning archipelago, including a stop at the legendary Pulau Dayang Bunting. For a magical experience, visit Dream Forest Langkawi and try the immersive night walk that uses multi-sensory technology to bring local folklore and mythical tales to life.

Start the next day with the Langkawi SkyCab cable car, located in the Oriental Village. The cable car ride takes you 650 metres above sea level, offering breathtaking views of Langkawi’s lush landscapes from Mount Machinchang. Afterwards, do not miss the chance to shop duty-free for all your needs—whether it is chocolates, souvenirs, or cookware, Langkawi’s duty-free outlets have everything covered.

In the evening, make your way to Pantai Cenang, known for its vibrant nightlife. Relax on the beach and enjoy the lively scene with live bands, fire shows, and more.

Day 4 – 5: Koh Lipe

If you are not ready to wrap up your beach vacation after soaking up Langkawi’s stunning shores, extend your escape to Koh Lipe on day 4 of your trip! Just remember to bring your passport along. This serene Thai island is just a 90-minute ferry ride from Langkawi, with redBus offering a convenient route starting from RM140 per trip.

Once you arrive, join a snorkelling tour or scuba diving session and explore the vibrant underwater world, where colourful reefs, beautiful corals and tropical fish surround the stunning islands. In the evening, unwind at Sunset Beach with fellow travellers by the shore, while indulging in local street food like sticky rice, pad thai, and fresh seafood.

The next morning, begin your day by basking in the sun at Sunrise Beach. Then, treat yourself to a soothing massage by the shore, accompanied by the calming sound of the waves. While you are here, remember to take some time to connect with the friendly locals and fully embrace the laid-back island life.

To ensure a stress-free return, book your ferry and bus tickets in advance on redBus. With seamless connections, you can end your trip on a high note and focus on savouring the memories made during your perfect getaway. Use the offer code RBFERRY to enjoy an instant 25% off + 25% cashback on your ferry bookings.
