Following MBSB Bank and several Maybank branches, two more local banks have confirmed new cases related to the Covid-19 outbreak in our country.

Most recently, it was announced that the employees working at Bank Muamalat in Kota Kinabalu and Public Bank headquarters in Jalan Ampang have tested positive for the deadly virus.

Bank Muamalat stated that all co-workers who have been in direct contact with the affected staff have been asked to self-quarantine by staying at home for the next 14 days, until they’re given the appropriate medical clearance. This is done as one of their efforts for precautionary measures.

“Contact tracing is also underway in line with the Health Ministry’s guidelines. The branch, located at the Aeropod Commercial Square, Jalan Kepayan in Kota Kinabalu, has been closed to enable thorough sanitisation and cleaning procedures to be carried out. In addition, the operating hours of all branches in the affected areas have been revised to 9:15am-3pm,” Bank Muamalat wrote in the statement.

The decision came following the federal government’s announcement to reimplement the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Selangor, KL and Putrajaya areas. The Souq Al-Bukhary, Alor Setar, and Sandakan branches will also operate according to the aforementioned operating hours.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the Public Bank employee, whose result came out earlier this week, had last visited the Menara Public Bank building last Friday (9th October). CEO Tay Ah Lek stated, “Deep cleansing and thorough sanitisation activities have been carried out immediately on the affected floors. As an added precaution, the bank has also deeply cleansed and sanitised all common areas. Disinfection will also be carried out in the entire building.”

In the meantime, all its employees who had been in close contact with the individual are now on home quarantine. Others have also undergone the Covid-19 test at a private hospital. “The management is continuously enhancing staff safety measures to contain any potential risks. All staff have been advised to practice self-hygiene and adhere closely to the SOPs issued by the health ministry, as well as the provisions of conditional movement control order (CMCO),” wrote the statement.

In light of the reimposed CMCO period, do make sure that you follow all the SOPs issued by the government. Stay safe everyone!
