In every way, ten years is a milestone worth celebrating, which is why Malaysian eyewear brand Pott Glasses has decided to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a new collection that pays homage to its history and its future. Introducing the Pott Sunnies: Collection X, the new line of sunglasses from Pott Glasses, designed for both style and self-expression.
A unique feature of this collection is the attachable charms, which are a collaboration with Nuvu and Wanderlust + Co. These dainty details allow wearers to personalise their look while embracing individuality. We had the wonderful opportunity to experience the collection, and here’s what we thought about it:

Before we dive into each design specifically, let’s talk about the highlights of the collection:
Detachable Charms

As previously mentioned, the main draw of this collection is the detachable charms. The charms themselves are your standard jewellery charms with a round lobster clasp fastener, and the way you attach them to the sunglasses is by clipping them onto a ring on the temples/arms.
We received three sets of charms and two single charms as part of the collection. However, given the straightforward design, you can use any charm of your liking, even from your own collection, as long as it has a round lobster clasp that fits the ring on the glasses – which really upholds the collection’s vision of personalisation and creativity.
Fit For Asian Features

One of the reasons Pott Glasses is loved by Malaysians for years is that they were created with Asian features in mind – and this collection is no exception. Each of the designs was thoughtfully engineered to allow the sunglasses to sit comfortably on the nose, ensuring a slip-free fit.
Testing this was easy: we wore the Lucid and compared it to a pair of sunglasses from an American brand with a similar design. Sure enough, the Lucid sat more comfortably on our face and didn’t even budge when we shook our heads. If you’ve always struggled with sunglasses falling down your face, this could convince you to consider these sunglasses.
Gender-Neutral Appeal

While fashion has grown to be less and less gender-specific in recent years, many would still consider certain articles of clothing and accessories to be “for men” or “for women”. However, a draw to the Pott Sunnies, or most of the Pott Glasses catalogue, is the gender-neutral appeal. Whichever way you identify, these sunglasses would be great additions to your wardrobe. However, we found some design features that may lean more feminine or masculine, which we will dive in more detail later.
The Glasses

Lucid

All three designs in the collection are gender-neutral, but the minimal silhouette of the Lucid makes it the most neutral out of the three. It’s one that we can recommend regardless of your aesthetic (you’ll understand why when we talk about Frontier later).
Note: This review only includes the Lucid in Midnight, but this design is available in another colourway: Chestnut (brown). From what we can see in photos on the Pott Glasses website, this colourway is softer, so it feels like it would suit outfits that are in the nude/neutral tones, like browns and beiges.
MORF

At first glance, the MORF shares a similar silhouette to the Lucid. However, upon closer look, you’ll notice some differences. For one, the frame is more curved at the edge, giving a softer appearance. Another design that we adore is on the temples/arms. It starts widening from the frame to the middle of the temple, but then dips and tapers towards the tips. It’s a subtle design element, one that might even go unnoticed when the sunglasses are on your face, but it’s interesting and even feels like the glasses sit better on the ears.
Like the other designs in the collection, the glasses feature the “X” monogram by the hinge and the charm holder. The MORF is offered in Midnight and Velvet – both of which we have the opportunity to review. The Midnight is your classic go-to black that works with any outfit for any occasion. Meanwhile, the Velvet has a burgundy frame with brown lenses. Like the Lucid in Chestnut, this is the softer option for MORF, one that feels better suited for an outfit with neutral tones.
However, we did a simple comparison “test” with some outfits from our closet, and it shows that the Velvet also works with purples, pinks and reds – and to an extent, greens. Perhaps it’s the colour wheel theory that’s doing the work, but if your closet leans towards these colours, you might want to consider getting the Velvet for a shift from the typical black sunnies.
Frontier

Unlike the other two designs, the Frontier is the only one with a metal frame. It’s thinner, lighter and features an adjustable nose pad. The design is definitely edgier than the Lucid and MORF, making it the most masculine-leaning in the collection. While we love a statement-making silhouette, you might find that the Frontier won’t be the best match if your daily outfits are leaning toward the “softer” side.
We also did some outfit “tests” with the Frontier and feel like the items we chose to match with the glasses gravitate towards more “edgier” aesthetics, like graphic tees and baggier silhouettes. Of course, you can always wear the Frontier with any outfit (who are we to judge), but it might not have a coherent look.
Verdict:

Overall, we love the Pott Sunnies: Collection X sunglasses. They’re great everyday sunnies to have in your collection – regardless of which design you choose. Price-wise, they’re also pretty affordable, and you don’t have to sacrifice style. More importantly, getting a pair means you’re supporting the local fashion industry and uplifting Malaysian brands that make pieces for Malaysians in mind.
