Over the weekend, 23-year-old Ellyn Ngai (倪樂琳) was named the winner of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2024 (2024香港小姐競選). However, her win isn’t surprising to some because the university graduate was a crowd favourite from the start.
If you’re curious about the new Miss HK, here are five fun facts about Ellyn Ngai:

She’s Known As The “Michelle Reis Of CityU”

One of the many reasons Ellyn became an instant favourite was her resemblance to fellow Miss HK, Michelle Reis (李嘉欣), who won the pageant in 1988. Ellyn’s resemblance to Michelle even earned her the nickname “Michelle Reis Of CityU”, as she’s an undergraduate at the City University of Hong Kong, a.k.a CityU.
Her Future Goals As Miss HK Reflected In Her Studies
As mentioned, Ellyn recently graduated from the City University of Hong Kong as a public policy and political science major. During a post-win interview, the newly-crowned Miss HK said she’s looking forward to using her status to contribute to society and bring light to issues related to social welfare, low-income residents and women’s rights.
She Used To Be Part Of A Hong Kong Dance Group
Before joining the pageant, Ellyn was an influencer and a former member of the Hong Kong K-pop dance cover group Morii Girls. She joined the group in 2022 under the stage name Stella. According to the group’s social media, the 23-year-old also participated in their first photo book and fan meeting in November 2023.
She Has Already Work With Several Big Brands
Since Ellyn is an influencer, she has already worked with several brands before her Miss HK win. According to her Instagram account, the brands that Ellyn has worked with include SK-II and Toys “R” Us. She also participated in a promotional campaign for the bag brand Doughnut as a member of Morii Girls.
Her Favourite Miss HK Winners Are Tracy Chu and Louisa Mak

After her win, Ellyn revealed that it was a dream come true because she had long admired the elegance of past contestants. She said that seeing the past winners on television sparked her desire to step into the limelight. The public figure also named Miss HK 2012’s second runner-up, Tracy Chu (朱千雪), and 2015 winner, Louisa Mak (麥明詩), her favourite past winners.

The pageant also crowned Emily Leung (梁嘉莹) as the runner-up and Miss Photogenic. Meanwhile, Amina Yeung (楊梓瑤) emerged as the second runner-up and Clary Wu was named the third runner-up. Congratulations to all the winners of the 2024 Miss Hong Kong pageant!
