Canadian-born Hong Kong artist Edison Chen (陈冠希) hasn’t exactly had the smoothest career. In fact, he previously left the entertainment industry after a backlash from a major sex scandal. The actor-singer has also previously gotten in trouble thanks to his temper.
Edison is much more settled nowadays with his wife, supermodel Qin Shupei (秦舒培) and daughter Alaia. Still, his infamous temper apparently hasn’t left him. In fact, a netizen claimed that he recently lashed out at them after they misspoke his name! While some have been sympathetic, others suspect there is more to the story.
The post first surfaced in 小红书 (Xiao Hong Shu). According to the netizen, his wife had spotted Edison shopping with his family in a mall in Japan. She had excitedly informed him and asked if he wanted a photo with Edison. However, the netizen had then declined, claiming he didn’t want to be a bothered.
“I can’t tell the difference between stars and their faces,” the netizen stated. “But as he is a celebrity, (I) wanted to share the experience with my friends. I didn’t want to take a sneak shot and I didn’t want to take a group photo.” However, to his surprise, Edison came over upon seeing him use his phone.
Edison then allegedly asked the netizen what he had been doing. When he didn’t reply, Edison asked: “What is my name?” “I didn’t clearly hear what my wife said to me earlier, so I simply said, “Eason Chan”,” the netizen said. This apparently angered the star as he repeated the question. When the netizen responded with “Eason Chan” again, Edison supposedly lost his cool, even going as far as to call the netizen a “bitch“. “My name is Edison Chen,” he allegedly told the netizen before slapping him.
Needless to say, it quickly devolved into a fight. Despite the netizen’s wife’s best efforts at apologising, both men allegedly refused to back down. The netizen also claimed that Edison had challenged him to a fight outside the store. But, the police came to break everything up. However, until the end, Edison allegedly continued to scold the netizen, leaving him frustrated.
“My wife kept apologising to him. But we did nothing wrong. At most, I got (his name) wrong when he asked me who he was,” the netizen stated. But, his story generated mixed reactions from others. “I’m not saying it’s the truth, but I do think he’s capable of doing something like this,” one admitted. “No matter what, hitting someone is wrong,” another opined.
Others however felt the story was pretty outrageous. They pointed out that the netizen had never clearly stated how he “shared his experience” with his friends. “Seeing his vague (story), there’s a high probability he took a video,” one said. A few added that Edison seemed to really hate people sneaking shots of him. Another also observed that the netizen had no real proof, aside from his story.
This isn’t the first time Edison has been noted for his temper. However, most netizens have maintained that he isn’t a bad guy. In fact, quite a few claim their interactions with Edison have been fairly pleasant. Edison himself has not addressed the issue. But, for now, it seems most are willing to think him innocent until proven guilty.
