K-pop idols often face malicious accusations, from drug use to bullying. Entertainer Jay Park (박재범) is one of the stars accused of various claims – but he’s not taking it without a fight.
Recently, Korean news outlets reported that the R&B star has filed a request with the United States District Court for the Northern District of California to request Google to disclose the identity of the person behind the YouTube channel, “BBR Detective Agency”. According to reports, the YouTube channel has been spreading false rumours about Jay Park, claiming that he smuggled drugs, engaged in illegal cryptocurrency deals and had a connection to the Chinese Triad.

The channel owner, referred to as “A”, claimed that Jay Park is involved in drug smuggling and the Chinese Triad through his connection to South Korean producer Koala (코알라). “A” accused Koala of being part of a triad and supplying drugs to Korean hip-hop artists. The YouTuber used footage of Koala inside the building of Jay Park’s label to support their claim. The producer is also known to be an acquaintance of Jessi (제시).
As for the cryptocurrency trading accusations, “A” claimed that Jay Park was involved because he and Jessi performed at the “Rolling Loud 2023” music festival in Thailand, sponsored by cryptocurrency exchange OKX. However, it’s worth noting that OKX has partnered with many brands and sports teams, including McLaren, the Australian Olympic Team and the Tribeca Film Festival.

The YouTube channel garnered millions of views with their accusation videos, prompting action from Jay Park. The singer previously sued the channel owner in January 2024 at the Seoul Central District Court. However, he required the US Court and Google’s assistance in identifying “A” because Google is the parent company of YouTube and is based in the US. The case is currently under review by Judge Eumi K. Lee.
The former 2PM rapper isn’t the only K-pop star who took action against irresponsible YouTubers spreading fake news. In January 2025, IVE’s Jang WonYoung (장원영) won her lawsuit against the infamous YouTuber Sojang, who was indicted for defaming the female idol and multiple other celebrities. We hope Jay Park can seek justice and clear his name.
