Doctor Strange 2: The Reason Scott Derrickson Stepped Down As Director

Uh oh, things aren’t looking too good for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“. Scott Derrickson, who directed the first “Doctor Strange” movie, won’t be returning to direct the sequel.

So what caused it? Variety reported that the 53-year-old and Marvel Studios have gone in separate directions. Despite no longer being the director, Derrickson will still serve as executive producer.

“Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP,” Derrickson clarified.

Marvel also acknowledge the filmmaker’s departure by releasing an official statement. It reads, “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

Having said that, film production will still proceed as planned as shooting is set to begin in May 2020. Comic Book Movie suggests that Marvel may have already secured a replacement for Derrickson since this setback has affected “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

This makes us ponder if Derrickson’s desire to add more horror elements had anything to do with the friction with Kevin Feige and co.?
