Diptyque is reopening the door to Orphéon with the launch of its latest fragrance. While you may or may not be familiar with the distinctive blue-and-gold bottle catching light through a window, the new Diptyque Orphéon Pop-Up in KL offers an opportunity to witness a modern classic in mid-evolution.
But first, let’s rewind back to 2021, when the late perfumer Olivier Pescheux first launched the original Orphéon Eau de Parfum. It was his love letter to a legendary jazz bar that once stood at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, where Diptyque’s founders mingled with artists and musicians in the early 1960s. The scent he created was all powdery smoke, warm wood, and the lingering ghost of gin cocktails.
Now at the latest pop-up in The Exchange TRX, visitors can meet its younger sibling: the new Orphéon Eau de Toilette, crafted by perfumer Natalie Cetto. Where the original was midnight, this one is twilight. Where the first was the moment after the party ends, this one is the moment before it begins. You’re freshly showered, wrapped in a silk robe, squeezing a slice of citrus into a gin and tonic as the evening stretches ahead of you.
The composition shifts from deep woody embraces to something more effervescent: green mandarin and Japanese yuzu dance across the skin before settling into a heart of rose and magnolia, anchored by cedar and musk. You can spray the EDP on one wrist, the EDT on the other, and literally feel the difference between midnight and twilight.
The evolution doesn’t stop at the wrist. The Orphéon Pop-Up also introduces Malaysian visitors to its new scented rituals including a new body lotion, a scented hair mist, and a hand cream – each evoking a sensorial echo from a bygone era. As you walk into this space that’s trying to capture the spirit of a 1960s Parisian jazz club, linger longer, and let the rhythm of Orphéon carry you somewhere between Paris and Kuala Lumpur.
